Sundew Chilli is a robust African heirloom plant that yields heavy, sweet, and mild piquant peppers

Growing Conditions

Sunlight & Climate: Demands full sun and thrives in warm, frost-free climates. Seeds are best sown indoors or in trays during early spring once soil temperatures begin to rise.

Soil & Moisture: Prefers rich, organic, well-draining soil. It requires consistent, regular watering to support its thick fruit walls, but the roots should never sit in waterlogged soil.

Plant Support: Grows into a very tall, sprawling bush that easily exceeds 1.5 metres (5 feet) in height. Because it yields a massive volume of dense, heavy fruit, sturdy stakes or cages are mandatory to prevent the branches from snapping.

Overwintering: This variety is exceptionally hardy. It overwinters beautifully if protected in a greenhouse or sheltered area, allowing for an even earlier and larger harvest in its second season.

Primary Uses

Sweet & Tangy Pickling: Its absolute best use is hollowed-out pickling. When preserved in a sweet brine, it replicates the exact flavour profile of commercial Peppadew® piquanté peppers.

Stuffing: The thick, round, golf-ball-sized walls are sturdy enough to be hollowed out and stuffed with cream cheese, feta, or bacon for appetizers.

Fresh Culinary Use: Excellent when chopped fresh into salads, pizzas, stir-fries, or salsas to add a crunchy texture, natural sweetness, and a very mild, gentle warmth. Are you preparing to plant your seeds soon, or would you like a reliable sweet and tangy brine recipe to pickle your harvest?
