What do you know about soap?

I'm Karen, co owner of Peters Gate Herbs and my husband Geoff and I make a lot of soap.

We like to use olive and coconut oils, essential oils or fragrances and hemp seed oil or charcoal for our specialist ranges.

Types of soap can be confusing to even the most discerning consumers.

The transparent glycerine soap, the kind everybody believes to be the purest, actually has many more additives than cold pressed soap.

Cream bars, like Dove, are Syndets, synthetic detergent bars, heavily enriched to moisturise the skin.

Commercial soaps are made of mineral oil, fully saponified and with the naturally occuring glycerine removed, which makes them very drying.

Tallow soaps are very hard and ideal for laundry use.

We make good quality plant oil based soaps, super fatted to draw moisture into the skin and mild enough to use on a baby.

Please check out our wide range of soaps in our store. We also do soap making courses on our farm.
